How to resize images quickly using only your browser
Images must be 960 x 640 dimensions to be used on GOV.UK
You don't need graphic design skills or software to resize images to these specs.
Crop images using Canva.com Photo Editor
Step 1
Open https://www.canva.com/photo-editor/
Click 'UPLOAD'
Upload the image you want to use for the story
Step 2
Now select CROP from the top menu
Step 3
Now you should see the Crop Tool options
Change the two numbers above the image so they are "960" and then "640"
Make sure that 'Maintain aspect ratio' is unticked, this will allow you to specify the exact image dimensions.
Step 4
Now you have a selection box that is the right size for GOV.UK
CLICK ON THE MIDDLE OF THE SELECTION BOX and then drag the selection box around until you have selected the most important part of the image
(DO NOT click on the four dials at the edges of the box)
Step 5
Now click APPLY
Great, you've now successfully cropped the image to GOV.UK dimensions
Save the image
All you need to do now is click SAVE
Ignore this marketing message and click on 'Download Your Photo By Itself'
Success! You have now saved a copy of the cropped image to your desktop.
