How to resize images quickly using only your browser

Images must be 960 x 640 dimensions to pixels in dimension to be used on GOV.UK UK.

What's a pixel?

The pixel (a word invented from 'picture element') is the basic unit of programmable colour on a computer display or in a computer image. Think of it as a logical, rather than a physical, unit of measurement. 

Do I need special digital or design skills?

You don't need graphic design skills or software to resize images to these specs.

Upload the image you want to use for the story.

Step 2

Now select CROP from the top menu.



Step 3

Now you should see the Crop Tool options.

Change the two numbers above the image so they are "960"  and then "640".

Now you have a selection box that is the right size for GOV.UK.

CLICK ON THE MIDDLE OF THE SELECTION BOX and then drag the selection box around until you have selected the most important part of the image

(DO NOT click on the four dials at the edges of the box)



Step 5

Now click APPLY.





Great, you've now successfully cropped the image to GOV.UK dimensions!

Save the image


All you need to do now is click SAVE.

Ignore this marketing message and click on 'Download Your Photo By Itself'.



Success! You have now saved a copy of the cropped image to your desktop.
