Update from Technology - Transition to Jira and Confluence Cloud

Background

The future success of UKHSA relies on having a technology infrastructure that is efficient, reliable, and standardized across all teams. After bringing together the former Public Health England (PHE) and Test & Trace (T&T) organisations, UKHSA inherited a technology landscape that is duplicative, complex and fragmented. This results in inefficiencies, higher costs and a system that doesn’t fully meet the needs of our users.

Atlassian SaaS Project

As part of our ongoing UKHSA and Technology strategy, we will be upgrading our existing Confluence and Jira platforms to be hosted on an Atlassian SaaS-based solution. This transition will offer several key benefits including:

  • Reduced operational costs
  • Increased productivity through better collaboration
  • Faster issue resolution

Where we are now

Atlassian SaaS project has been in preparation for over 12 months, and we are really pleased to confirm that planning is officially underway.

The project team will be sharing updates and engagement opportunities along the way. Your involvement is crucial to ensure a smooth and successful migration.

How this affects you

  • Consider supporting with UAT (Jan 2025) and becoming a volunteer to help us test the new system and report any issues – volunteer here – by 20 Dec 2024
  • You will experience some visual and functional differences between the current version and the cloud version - check out the familiarisation videos here
  • Personal Confluence Spaces will not migrate. If you have a current active personal Confluence Space, you will receive an email from the project team shortly with more details

Any further system upgrades, change freeze or planned outages will be communicated in advance.
