How to structure a statistical commentary publication

Statistical commentaries should be separated into these main sections:

  • 100 word summary of what has been modified in the statistics publication
  • links to data included further down the page (if needed)

Main findings
  • overview of the most pertinent data that has come from the statistics publication
  • this should be 6 to 7 bullet points in length


Summary
  • this is where you should go into the detail of the statistical commentary
  • illustrated with Figures and charts
  • sub-headings can be used to divide up this summary for ease of reading

Background information
  • provide context to the statistics publication - why it was commissioned, who was involved, and information on the main issues that the publication addresses
  • relevant links to the full statistical publication or partner sites
