Sourcing images for GOV.UK

...

This is because:

  • if the image is the wrong size, it will not display correctly on the page
  • we have a commitment to providing users with a consistent experience across GOV.UK web pages

...

Images used on GOV.UK should be:

  • public-domain and royalty free
  • relevant to the news story or page content
  • suitably generic in style, suitable for a mass audience
  • clean and free of text - except where campaign or UKHSA branding is mandatory

The UKHSA Communications shared drive has a folder with suitable and pre-sized images: GOV.UK publishing\Website resized images.

What to do if your image is not in the correct dimensions

Please mention this in the JIRA ticket when you create your new content request:

  • If your image is too large (above 960 x 640) we can resize to fit
  • if your image is too small we cannot use the image on GOV.UK

You could also resize the image yourself using the crop function in Microsoft Picture Manager.
