Sourcing images for GOV.UK

Images We need to ensure that all images used on GOV.UK are created in the correct format and specifications.

This is because:

  • if the image is the wrong size, it will not display correctly on the page
  • we have a commitment to providing users with a consistent experience across GOV.UK web pages

All images used in news stories need to be in these dimensions:

  • Width - 960 pixels
  • Height - 640 pixels

should be:

  • public-domain and royalty free
  • relevant to the news story or page content
  • suitably generic in style, suitable for a mass audience
  • clean and free of text - except where campaign or UKHSA branding is mandatory
