Image dimensions and specifications
If you are planning images for upload to a GOV.UK page, press release or news story, the image must beAll images used in news stories need to be in these dimensions:
width - 960 pixels
height - 640 pixels
This is because:
- GOV.UK pages are designed to display effectively on all browsers and devices
- this is the optimal image size for both desktop and mobile
- this image size works with all different GOV.UK pages and publication types
Images must also be in landscape rather than portrait orientation.
Portrait images are not suitable for use on GOV.UK news stories.
Sourcing images for GOV.UK
Images used on GOV.UK should be:
- public-domain and royalty free
- relevant to the news story or page content
- suitably generic in style, suitable for a mass audience

dimensions) the GOV.UK content team may be able to resize it to fit. Images that are smaller than 960 x 640 are not suitable for use on the site.
You could also resize the image yourself using the the crop function in Microsoft Picture Manager.
